The 2023/24 Australian winter crop harvest was a season of plenty – but we can’t forget the storms in the south and bushfires in the north, making this harvest eventful to say the least.
The wild weather made for some incredible photo opportunities, from heavy clouds rolling in over golden fields, to sunsets blanketed by smoke haze.
This year’s GrainCorp Harvest Photo Competition entries showcased all of the different sides of harvest.
The judges had a tough time deciding on the pick of the crop from this year’s talent – so a big congratulations to all those who placed.
Winners
1st Place
Julie Lucas
Lake Cullulleraine, Victoria
Judges comments: This photo captures the spectacle of working long days during the harvest – especially when the forecast is predicting rain. The dramatic sky that bleeds into a calming sunset, set against the header in the field, balances the forces of nature with the hard work of growers perfectly.
2nd Place
Ashlee Edwards

Judges comments: This photo depicts the beautiful aspects of working around the clock during harvest with breathtaking sunsets. The viewer can appreciate the vastness of the land that has grown crops to feed the nation, while understanding the scale of people and machinery needed to pull off such a task.
3rd Place
Bruce Ward
Tincurrin, Western Australia
Judges comments: The judges couldn’t go past this entry that showcases the next generation farmer in the making. Harvest is full of long days and hard work, but this photo offers us a moment to stop and reflect – a child who just wants to join in on the action.
